2014 AASL Best Apps and Best Websites

Every year, when I renew my American Association of School Librarians membership, I’m always excited to see what resources they have for teachers. This year was no different. When I reviewed the list of offerings, I was reminded of two great teaching and learning resources that I just had to share with everyone: Best Apps for Teaching and Learning and Best Websites for Teaching & Learning.

According to the AASL website, “The Best Apps for Teaching and Learning is a recognition honoring apps of exceptional value to inquiry-based teaching and learning as embodied in the American Association of School Librarians’ Standards for the 21st-Century Learner.” The apps are broken into the following categories: Books; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM); Organization and Management; Social Sciences; and Content Creation. If you’re really interested, they have a link to their 2013 list at the bottom.

The 2014 Best Websites for Teaching & Learning “foster the qualities of innovation, creativity, active participation, and collaboration. They are free, Web-based sites that are user friendly and encourage a community of learners to explore and discover.”  These sites are also broken down by categories: Media Sharing; Digital Storytelling; Manage and Organize; Social Networking & Communication; Content Resources; and Curriculum Collaboration.  If this isn’t enough information to keep you busy, AASL also shared their 2009-2013 lists at the bottom.

Kellie and I are always interested in learning how you use our resources. If you have a classroom application you would like to share, just let us know.
